The Mayfield Village Fire Department was established in 1946, and today provides quality emergency response services including fire suppression and Emergency Medical Service to our community. In addition, we provide Emergency Medical Services under contract to the Village of Gates Mills.
These quality services are provided 24 hours a day by a combination staff of both career and part-time professionals which include of a total of 18 career positions including the Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Marshal, Executive Assistant, 3 shift Lieutenants, 12 full-time Firefighter/Paramedics, and supplemented with approximately 10 part-time Fire Fighter/Paramedics.
Our fire department was the first in the Hillcrest area to offer an EMS service staffed by paramedics in 1979, and we were the first to commit to the safety of our firefighters by purchasing a fire engine with an enclosed crew cab in 1989.
Mayfield Village Fire Department is a member several regional emergency response teams including the Hillcrest Regional Fire Investigation Unit, and the East Tech Technical Rescue Team. By providing staffing, equipment and funding with our neighboring departments we are able to provide a superior level of professional services, maintain and improve interoperability with our neighboring communities, all while maintaining a high level of fiduciary responsibility.
Public education is a priority and we work with our educators at both the Senior High and elementary school levels to provide training and education in fire safety and CPR as well as career path guidance, with hands-on experience.
Public fire safety is maintained by our fire prevention bureau. The bureau is responsible for fire safety inspections of business occupancies, public safety education and awareness, and fire code enforcement. Fire safety inspections of single family homes are also offered by request only.
We are proud to offer a smoke alarm purchase program featuring quality photoelectric units equipped with wireless interconnection capability and voice location. These units wirelessly link together so that when one alarms, all alarm providing earlier warning to your family providing more time to escape. They also identify the location of the fire with a pre-recorded voice message providing valuable information as to the possible location of the fire. Alarms that include a carbon monoxide sensor are also available and are recommended.
We offer these quality smoke alarms to our residents at special pricing obtained directly from the manufacturer and pass the savings on to you. In addition, participants will receive a free smoke alarm for the first two purchased. Fire department staff members will install the alarms at no charge.
We also provide assistance with smoke alarm batteries and will provide and install them for those in need.
