Update from Service Department

As the region-wide salt supply shortage continues to impact NE Ohio and with more winter weather moving our way, we want to give an update on our Service Department’s preparedness and actions we are taking to continue to keep Village roads safe for travel. When rumors of a potential salt shortage began to circle early-December, the Service Department preemptively began monitoring and conserving the Village’s salt supply. Though we have a standing order for additional salt with our supplier, Cargill, all indications point to us not receiving delivery until mid to late February. Though our salt supply has not been fully depleted, we feel it necessary and prudent to make further adjustments to our winter weather operations to ensure the safety of our residents and travelers through our Village.

Our Service Department will continue to plow all roads during all snow events; however, all roads may remain more snow covered than usual.  Our salt trucks will prioritize salt for intersections, hills, and curves throughout snow events. Though main roads will continue to be plowed, they will be salted during peak rush hours only. Secondary and residential streets will continue to be plowed from curb to curb but only salted at stop signs, intersections, curves, and hills.

Keep in mind it may take longer to travel during and immediately following snow and ice events so allow plenty of time to get where you are going. Our Service Department will continue to do their best to keep roads as safe and clear as possible. Please help our crew’s snow removal and ice control operations; slow down and “Don’t Crowd the Plow!”.
