Activities/Programs

The Human Services' Department offers several ongoing activities which seniors are welcome to attend. Non-resident seniors are also welcome to participate.  Most activities are held at the Mayfield Village Community Room, 6621 Wilson Mills Road.  On holidays offices are closed; no activities are scheduled.  Most activities are free or have a modest fee.

Cards

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.at the Mayfield Village Community Room. Drop in at 1:00 p.m. any Tuesday or Thursday to play cards. Come solo or bring a friend. We currently play bridge, pinochle, and hand & foot while making new friends and enjoying refreshments. There is an admission fee of 50 cents.

Games and Puzzles

Mondays from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Mayfield Village Community Room. Please arrive at 1:00 p.m. to select your favorite game or puzzle and to team up with old or new friends. Currently, people are playing Mah Jong. Light refreshments are served. This is a free activity; non-residents are welcome. We have a variety of games and puzzles, but if you have a favorite, bring it with you.

Seniorcize/Chair Exercise

This group knows to make exercise look like fun!  If you would like to begin an exercise program but just do not know where to start, consider joining this group.  Chair exercise is rigorous enough to give you a nice “good feeling” while increasing your heart rate as well as toning, strengthening and stretching the body.  The workout includes standing exercises to improve balance and light low impact aerobics.

Line Dancing

Come out and dance in this fun and friendly environment where no partner is necessary.  You will burn calories and get some exercise as you do familiar dances such as the Electric Slide and a variety of Country Western dances.

Session 2:  November 4-December 16.  (No class Nov. 25.)

Mat Pilates

Strength training exercises concentrating on the core muscles:  abdominals, back, and hips.

When: Mondays: September 12-October 31, 2011 (No classes September 19 and October 17)
Fee: $60 for the entire 6-week session.

Meditation

This one-hour class incorporates simple warm-ups and various types of breathing exercises with a step-by-step relaxation process and meditation.  Stressful times call for stress-free measures. Meditation can be done while sitting in a chair or lying on the floor.

Tai Chi Fan

The next 6-week session of Tai Chi begins September 28. The charge for the 6-week session is $30. Drop-in classes are available at $8 per class. There is also a nominal fee for the fan.

Tech Wise Senior Computer Classes

Classes are held at the Ross DeJohn Community Center in Mayfield Heights.

Basic Yoga

This classic Hatha Yoga class will help to strengthen and stretch all of your major muscle groups and release stored tension throughout your body.  Learn a guided relaxation/meditation technique that will completely relax and refresh you.  Not recommended for pregnant or nursing women.  Wear exercise clothing and bring a blanket, yoga mat, and a firm cushion.

Special Program:  Medicare Choices

Diane Jones, Licensed Benefit Consultant, of Aetna Insurance, will enlighten those of “Medicare age” on the various choices of health care insurance Wednesday, October 5 at 2:30 p.m. in the Mayfield Village Community Room.  There is no charge for this program, but reservations are requested.  Contact our office at (440) 919-2332 by Monday, October 3 to register.  Refreshments will be served
