Doug is a Mentor resident with his wife Lee Ann and his three daughters Katie, Lindsey, and Molly. Doug graduated from Eastlake North High followed by two years of night school at Hichkock Technical in the lost art of Mechanical Drafting.
Doug began his municipal career in 1977 in the service department for Willowick, Ohio. Doug enjoyed a well-rounded career in Willowick, working in all facets of service department work. Doug's duties ranged from working underground, installing and repairing sewer pipe, to working on the ground as the road foreman, to working above the ground as head of the traffic department. During this time, Doug also served as the President of the Willowick Service Employees Association, an in-house union wholly owned and operated by the members of the service department.
Doug was promoted to Service Director of Willowick in 1991. As Service Director, Doug was in charge of 20 full time employees in a community of 14,000. During that first year, Doug had the pleasure of working with a crackerjack finance director named Phil Brett. (See Phil's bio). In 1992, Phil left Willowick for Mayfield Village. Four years later Doug followed Phil to Mayfield Village. Note: Doug and Phil were not the first to cross over the county line from Willowick to Mayfield Village. John Relic for whom the service building is named worked as a part-time finance director for both communities in the 1970s.
Doug arrived in Mayfield Village at a very exciting time. The Village has seen land holding increase from ten acres to well over a hundred acres. New parks with a swimming pool, softball fields and soccer fields have been added during the last ten years. The Service Department has grown from three full-time and three part-time to ten full-time and five part-time employees.
Doug has enjoyed the excitement and challenges that have come with the ever-changing landscape in Mayfield Village over the last ten years and looks forward to the next ten years. |
